Deep Forest

This game play was a reimagining of where I live in the Tamar Valley. The valley is in a post industrial state after heavy mining.

Spring

Young Knocker is initiated into the dark. The hills resound with banging and clashing.

Silver fish are seen swimming up the river, a sight not seen for many years. This is surely a sign of good times returning. The knockers start building ladders up into the oak trees as an act of new things.

The weir has blocked the flow of the river and the silver fish cannot go further. We must break the weir! The troll starts on this.

The monsters shout at the full moon and dance together. The troll remains silent busy breaking the weir.

Summer

The young knocker starts to delve into the mine. The other knockers worry about the impact that this might have. Raven notices that smoke is coming from the chimney. The fire drake flies across the hills called by the smell of smoke. She settles on the chmney stack and the smoke gets higher. The knockers flee scared on what is happening.

Flowers bloom in the beds beautiful and scented.

The fire drake breaks the ladders of the knockers to feed the fire. The weir is finally broken by the troll.

Autumn

The knockers say that the burning of their ladders must stop. The Troll and the Rook agree. The fire drake sulks.

Everyone returns to their homes and sit in silence not even singing for the full moon.

deep forest The Deep Forest – find it here and game play here For a long time, our monstrous home was occupied by invading humans. Now, finally, we’ve driven them off, and we’re left with this: a year of relative peace. One quiet year, with which to dismantle their settlements and reclaim our lands. Come Winter, a band of heroes will arrive and we might not survive the encounter. This is when the game will end. But we don’t know about that yet. What we know is that right now, in this moment, we monsters have an opportunity for healing and self-discovery in our deep forest, away from human eyes.
