Apple Stories

I’ve been telling Apple tales for as long as I’ve been storytelling. Part of the seasonal round they are and great under the trees and by the Apple press.

The Appleman

In the oldest tree of the orchard lives the Apple man and he looks after those who look after the trees.

A House with a Star inside

Where could Anna find a house with a star inside? Borrowed from Eileen Dillon at Killerton this is a lovely story to be cut open at the end.

Franlin’s Nights

A strange tale from Devon with late frost, apple blossom and a greedy orchard owner.

Emma Pippen and Sir Laxton Superb

A broken down bus, a tempting white wall, a cat called Tom Putt and of course an orchard this tale has goodies and baddies and a great fly away ending. Taken from Joan Aiken’s magical collection “A necklace of raindrops”

Orfeo and Isabella

Sleeping under the Ymp Tree under the spring blossom leads to loss, searching and meeting the King of Faerie in halls of greenwood stone. An old tale translated by Mr Tolkien no less.

Old Misery

What do you ask for from Old Father Death when he’s caught stuck up in your Apple tree? A story from France.

Iduna and the Golden Apples

Trickery, a thunder giant, a rainbow bridge and the gods getting old. This is a Norse tale.

The Garden of the Hesperides

A wall that is high as the clouds guards the golden apples in the far west of the world. You’d need a giant to get over that!
